How Internet Dating Scams Work
Do you know about internet dating scams? If you spend any time socializing with people on the internet, you should be aware of them. The scams are terrible. Most of the time the victim ends up losing his or her hard-earned money. Oftentimes the victim is left with a bruised ego at best, a broken heart at worst. What normally happens is that a man or woman will begin talking with someone online. This usually happens at an internet dating site.
The scammer bides his or her time. They chat or send messages just long enough for the victim to grow attached to the scammer and trust him or her. Then, with most internet dating scams, the scammer will begin telling the victim about how they are having hard times. They will usually make up some story about how they or a family member needs an expensive operation, or they might say that they won't be on the internet much longer because they can't afford the bills. Having grown to trust and care for the scammer, the victim usually does whatever they can do to help.
This, of course, typically involves sending cash. Usually the victim will send the money through a wire transfer system like Western Union. The victim starts out believing they are helping out a friend. But after they send the money, they usually never hear back from their 'friend' again. Sometimes the scammer will send a letter or two of thanks, perhaps, but more often than not the victim won't even see this much. Internet dating scams are a disgusting and terrible to pull on someone, but they are still widespread. So if you're using an internet dating service, be careful. Be wary of any 'friends' who ask for money or drop heavy hints about needing your help. Never send money to someone you haven't met. Don't be a victim like so many others have.
